2 hikers rescued from Hogback

MARQUETTE — Two people were rescued on Monday from the top of Hogback Mountain.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies as well as Search and Rescue volunteers were dispatched to Republic Township for a lost hunter. Before their arrival, the hunter was located.

Deputies and volunteers then were redirected to Hogback Mountain in Marquette Township to try to find the two lost hikers.

Matthew Strong, 32, and Katherine Ducsay, 23, both of Marquette, went for a hike in the area around 5 p.m. They became lost on the trails and ended at the Hogback summit. Since it was dark, they called 911 and waited for rescuers.

Search and Rescue volunteers located the hikers at the summit in good condition and escorted them to their vehicle without incident.
