Motown comes to Irontown’s Vista Theater

NEGAUNEE — The Historic Vista Theater in Negaunee will celebrate the soulful sounds of Motown on Sunday with special guest artist Jeff Jennings.

“Irontown: A Motown Cabaret” will feature favorites by Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and more.

“The Vista Theater has the privilege to feature hometown favorite Jeff Jennings again,” said show organizer Eliisa Gladwell. “We are grateful that he is willing to share his talent with us. We have called together a bunch of talented local performers to complement him and this style of music. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Jennings — a Negaunee High School alum, who now lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin, working as a public school teacher — said he always looks forward to a return to Irontown and participating in community activities in Negaunee.

“It’s my community,” Jennings said in an email. “Don’t get me wrong, I love Green Bay, it truly is my home away from home, but nothing beats buzzin’ the gut as soon as I get back into town. I can’t imagine not wanting to be involved with local events, fundraisers, etc. The Walk to End Alzheimers is (today) before the Vista Motown Show, and I’ll be at both.”

He said shows that highlight a certain musical genre generate much-needed funds for venues like the Vista.

“Pop-up shows like this are important. Who knows how many people will, not only attend, but walk into the theater for the first time,” Jennings said. “(The organization) is onto something big! I’ve noticed a new and fresh push with restoring the building back to its glory days. I’m blessed to be even a tiny part of that.”

Tickets for the one-time performance at 2 p.m. Sunday will be $5 for children age 12 and under, $12 for students and senior citizens and $15 for general admission seating. Advance tickets are available online at the Historic Vista Theater website vistatheater.org, and will be sold at the door.
