Coach training sessions to be held

MARQUETTE — Area 36 Special Olympics of Michigan is striving to build its coaching volunteer group.

Two upcoming coach training sessions will be hosted in Marquette:

≤ Basketball: Friday, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Marquette Alger RESA building

≤ Snowshoe: Saturday 9-11 a.m. at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

Both of these sessions will get coaches their first-time certifications or established coaches their re-certifications if needed. The sessions will cover SOMI General Coaching Rules, sport specific rules as well as practice drills/ideas.

Anyone interested in helping out Area 36 Special Olympic athletes by continuing to provide this sport programming is asked to register online at https://forms.gle/7Y1s5yymS6qsYnd16 .

Area 36 Special Olympics will also be hosting a bocce ball tournament at Northern Michigan University’s Superior Dome in Marquette, as well as a golf tournament at the NMU Golf Course in Chocolay Township. Both events begin at 11 a.m. Saturday.
