MARQUETTE — A Tilden Township man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-motorcycle crash in Ely Township late Thursday night, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 11:55 p.m. Thursday to a report of a single-motorcycle crash with an unresponsive subject near the intersection of Marquette County Road 581 and Marquette County Road CD in Ely Township.

According to police, the accident occurred when the 56-year-old Tilden Township man was traveling north on County Road 581 near County Road CD when he left the roadway, striking a utility pole, which ejected him from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responders, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation and the man’s name has not yet been released, police said this morning.

County Road 581 was partially blocked for about four hours while the scene was investigated.

Ishpeming Township Fire and EMS, the Ishpeming Police Department and the Michigan State Police assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.
