2 men arrested for alleged involvement in larceny at Pomp’s Tire Shop

MARQUETTE — Two men were arrested Friday for their alleged involvement in a larceny at Pomp’s Tire Shop in Marquette.

Pomp’s employee Steven Joseph Briggs, 40, of Ishpeming was charged with larceny in a building, as well as receiving/concealing stolen property, $20,000 to $50,000.

Joseph Michael Ellis, 41, of Negaunee was charged with receiving/concealing stolen property, $20,000 to $50,000, according to the Marquette City Police Department.

The two men were arrested on felony charges after an investigation revealed Briggs was allegedly stealing tires and rims from the business and selling them to Ellis, who was storing them and selling them to a third party, police said.

Briggs posted the required bond of 10% of $20,000 on both of the charges. Ellis was arrested and posted the required bond of 10% of $10,000. Ellis and Briggs are scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Aug. 5.
