Motorcyclist in critical condition after Alger County accident

MUNISING — A motorcyclist is in critical condition after an accident occurred in Alger County Wednesday, according to the Alger County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office had received a call around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday reported a single-vehicle motor accident along H-58 near Ross Lake Road in Alger County.

An investigation revealed that the accident occurred when two motorcycles were traveling eastbound on H-58 near Ross Lake Road in a single-file formation. A large tree fell between the two motorcycles, into the oncoming path of the rear motorcycle. The operator of the rear motorcycle, who was not wearing a helmet, struck the tree and was ejected, traveling the 250 feet before to coming to rest in the roadway. The motorcycle operator was transfered to a landing zone by Alger County EMS where care was transferred over to Valley Med Flight. The motorcycle operator was transfered to UP Health System – Marquette, where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

The name of the victim is not being released until proper family notifications are completed, police said.

Alger County Sheriff’s deputies, Pictured Rocks National Park Rangers, Alger EMS and Munising Township Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.
