2 men arrested by UPSET in Houghton

HANCOCK — Two men were arrested Thursday in Houghton on charges related to the distribution of herion and crystal meth following an investigation by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team.

A 31-year-old Hancock man, as well as his passenger, a 28-year-old Milwaukee man, were arrested during a traffic stop in Houghton Thursday, police said.

UPSET had been investigating the Hancock man for two months and had developed probable cause to show the suspect was involved in the distribution of herion and crystal methamphetamine. After the traffic stop, officers located additional evidence of drug distribution, finding herion and crack cocaine, along with a didigital scale.

Both suspects were arrested on various charges related to the distribution of herion and crystal meth, with additional charges pending, according to UPSET.

Both men are lodged in the Houghton County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing with additional charges and arrests pending. The suspects’ names will not be released until they are arraigned in the 97th District Court, according to UPSET.

Detectives from UPSET were assisted by the Houghton City Police Department.
