Threat to WHS leads to arrest

ISHPEMING — A suspect was taken into protective custody Tuesday after Westwood High School administration reported a potential threat to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office personnel were able to respond to the high school within two minutes of the call from administrators around 12:46 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. After investigating the information provided by school officials, officers “determined that the threat was credible” and were able to locate the suspect, taking him into protective custody, police said.

“Westwood High School had a plan in place for events such as this. Today, it showed that having drills to practice these situations, without a doubt, help during real life events,” a press release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office states.

The school was given the “all clear” to resume normal activities around 1:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office has been contacted for possible charges. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post.
