Artist hosts open studio sessions

MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library, Marquette Arts and Culture Center and Evolve MQT will host an open studio with Marquette creative-in-residence Julie Renee Benda through Saturday.

Benda is an interdisciplinary artist with a practice in print, illustration and sculpture. She studied both art and botany at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and later completed a master of fine arts degree at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

The community is invited to visit with the artist, see the process and discuss the overlap of print, wood and storytelling. Using wood, text and image, she works on projects that interact with and narrate shifting boundaries of land, water, people and plans.

Open Studio is free and open to the public. Hours are: 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 5-8 p.m. Tuesday; and 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Saturday. Open Studio will take place at the lower level of the Peter White Public Library located at 217 N. Front St., Marquette. For more information, call the Marquette Arts and Culture Center at 906-228-0472 or email arts-culture@marquettemi.gov.
