DNR grant awards total $1.04M

LANSING — More than a dozen conservation organizations, units of government and nonprofit groups have been awarded a total of roughly $1.04 million in Michigan Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Habitat Grants for projects to be completed by Sept. 30, 2020.

The money will support projects to enhance large wetland complexes, winter deer complexes, mast-producing food sources, forest openings, oak savannas and small-game habitat. Grants are funded with a portion of the revenue from hunting and fishing licenses sold each year.

Upper Peninsula recipients include Greenleaf Timber Holding Inc., $79,300, for work in Alger and Iron counties; Safari Club International, $71,800, for work in Baraga, Mackinac and Ontonagon counties; and the U.P. Whitetails Association Inc., $53,500, for work in Delta County.
