Woman dies in accident by Curtis

CURTIS — One woman died after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 2 at the intersection of M-33 near Curtis at 3:59 p.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the Michigan State Police.

The crash involved a westbound SUV and a passenger vehicle that was turning east onto U.S. 2 from M-33, according to police.

Leta Anna Petosky, an 89-year-old female from McMillan who was driving the passneger vehicle, was transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry by Portage EMS, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the SUV, a Farmington Hills woman, was also transported to the hospital and was later released.

Police said the initial investigation indicates Petosky did not yield to oncoming traffic and pulled into the path of the other woman’s westbound SUV.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.

Traffic was rerouted around the scene for several hours while accident investigators processed the scene, the release states.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department, Portage Township EMS, Newton Township Fire Department, Garfield Township Fire Department and Michigan Department of Transportation.
