Baraga woman dies in crash

SIDNAW — A Baraga woman is dead after a three-vehicle crash in Duncan Township on Friday.

The accident occurred around 1:45 p.m. on M-28 about 2 miles west of Sidnaw.

A Michigan State Police investigation determined that a 2000 Honda Accord driven by Roberta Vizina, 72, of Baraga was travelling westbound on M-28 when she rear-ended a Toyota Highlander driven by Karen Moller, 59, of Eveleth, Minnesota, an MSP Calumet Post press release states.

Officials say Moller was stopped in the westbound lane as a result of a construction-related lane closure. As the result of the impact, Moller’s vehicle then rear-ended a 2001 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Garret Ayotte, 49, of Bad Axe, who was also stopped for the lane closure.

Vizina was transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital by Bay EMS, where she was later pronounced dead. The other two drivers reported no injuries, the release states.

M-28 was temporarily shut down while the crash was investigated and the vehicles removed from the roadway. Officials said the investigation is ongoing.
