Woman arrested for counterfeit

MARQUETTE — A 36-year-old Gwinn woman was arrested Friday on a warrant authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for Counterfeit – Coins/Possession of 5 or more, which is a felony.

The arrest was result of a lengthy investigation involving the suspect allegedly using counterfeit bills in Marquette County.

The counterfeit bills were allegedly shipped to the woman by a suspect in Ghana, Africa.

On the date of arrest, she was unable to post the 10 percent of $5,000 bond, and lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

Counterfeit-Coins/Possession of 5 or more is a felony and punishable by up to life or any term of years in prison.

The Marquette Police Department were assisted in the investigation by the Forsyth Township Police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
