MARQUETTE — The county board named three final appointees Tuesday to the Marquette County Solid Waste Authority Board. Seated on the board were Robert Clark of Ishpeming, Edward Kinkella of Negaunee and Donald Wickstrom of Chocolay Township. They join Marquette County Prosecutor Gary Walker; Marquette city appointees Thomas Knauss and Thomas Griffith; and Sands Township resident David Kallio, who is chairman of the board.

The board’s organizational meeting will probably be held soon after the Aug. 16 deadline for governmental units in the county to join the authority, Kallio said. The authority board will manage the landfill being developed in Sands Township under a construction permit held by the city of Marquette and the township.

ISHPEMING — The administration board has authorized Frank F. Rogers, state highway commissioner, to award a contract to the P.J. Nickel Co. of Ironwood for the construction of the concrete highway between Clarksburg and Champion. The new road, which will follow M-28 most of the way, will be 20 feet wide. It will be a half-mile shorter from Ishpeming to Champion because of the elimination of several curves.
