Marquette Breakfast Rotary preps for annual Fishboil

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Breakfast Rotary Club’s 26th annual Fishboil Dinner is set to take place from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

A live and silent auction will occur in the Lake Superior Theatre, and dinner will be served by rotarians at the Lake Superior Yacht Yard. New this year will be a dance floor and music provided by Double Trouble Entertainment, according to a press release.

Last year, $35,000 to $45,000 was generated from ticket sales, live and silent auctions and sponsorships.

“Proceeds go toward our grant cycle for local organizations, programs and projects that support community youth organizations that promote healthy environments, young people,” said coordinator Jennifer Huetter.

The club has donated to Campus Star, Girl and Boy Scouts, and K-12 schools in previous years, Huetter said.

In traditional fish boil style, the event features Lake Superior white fish, barbecue ribs, strawberry shortcake and Long Island iced tea.

More than 100 auction items will be on display for guests to bid on, including unique, one-of-a-kind trips, a fat-tire bike, sports memorabilia, as well as dining and lodging packages, among other items.

“The focus of Marquette Breakfast Rotary is very much on serving the youth in our community,” Katie Koch, club president, said in a press release. “Funds raised during the Fishboil support our yearly grant cycle which allows us to make significant donations in our community. We encourage folks to come out and get your tickets and join us in raising funds for our young people.”

Since 1992, proceeds from the event total more than $400,000 that have been directed back to organizations throughout Marquette County, the release states.
