CALUMET — A fire occurred at an abandoned church along the 300 block of Seventh Street in Calumet and spread to a nearby house in the early morning hours Sunday.

The Calumet Village Police Department was dispatched to the fire at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

One female who had smoke inhalation was treated at the scene.

Police were assisted by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Laurium Village Police Department, Michigan State Police, Calumet Village Fire Department, Calumet Township Fire Department, Laurium Village Fire Department, Ahmeek Fire Department, Mercy Ambulance, Semco Energy Gas Company and the Upper Peninsula Power Company. The incident is currently under investigation by the Michigan State Police fire investigator, according to the Calumet police.
