3 injured in Ishpeming accident

ISHPEMING — Three people incurred minor injuries in a personal injury accident at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Lakeshore Drive in Ishpeming at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday.

A 2009 Impala that was westbound on U.S. 41 struck a 2000 Mercury that was northbound on Lakeshore Drive after the driver of the Impala “disregarded the traffic light,” according to a press release from the Ishpeming Police Department.

Two people in the Impala had minor injuries, as did the sole occupant of the 2000 Mercury. The driver of the Impala was cited for disregarding the traffic light.

Ishpeming police said this is the 10th accident that has occurred at this intersection since Jan. 1. The accidents have involved 20 vehicles and six injuries have been reported.

Four of the accidents were caused by a vehicle disregarding a traffic control device, four were caused by failure to yield the right-of-way, one was due to a failure to stop within an assured clear distance and one was caused by a vehicle striking an object in the roadway.
