MARQUETTE — AIDS, the ever-burgeoning worldwide tragedy, has yet to make striking inroads into the Upper Peninsula, but the problem may be worse locally than a cursory glance at Marquette County’s statistics would indicate. To date, the Upper Peninsula has reported six official AIDS cases, four of which have been assigned to Marquette County. Two of the four apparently became ill in a prison outside of the county, however, and their assignation to Marquette is being challenged, said Dr. Randall Johnson, county health director.

MARQUETTE — Thousands of Marquette County residents enjoyed tours of the new Northern Michigan College physical education building and fieldhouse, when the building was open to the public for the first time last evening. Northern’s fieldhouse represents an expenditure of $1,600,000. Its cornerstone was laid in 1956.
