College financing meeting Friday
MARQUETTE — State Sen. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, state Rep. Sara Cambensy, D-Marquette, and representatives of the Michigan Education Trust 529 prepaid tuition program invite Upper Peninsula parents to attend a college savings informational session from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday in the Business Reference Room at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.
Parents will have the opportunity to learn more about MET and the Michigan Education Savings Program, the tax-advantaged 520 college savings plans administered by the Michigan Department of Treasury.
Casperson, Cambensy and MET Executive Director Robin Lott will unveil and discuss the results of a new MET, first-of-its-kind survey detailing the college savings habits of U.P. families. Preliminary results indicate the U.P. lags behind most other regions of the state in its rate of savings for higher education.
