Marenisco Township man arrested

MARENISCO TOWNSHIP — Gogebic County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance in Marenisco Township around 10:10 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspect was in possession of a firearm and using a chainsaw to cut trees for the purpose of impeding travel to and from the residence, according to initial reports.

The victim was able to safety flee the residence prior to the arrival of responders, who were then able to establish communication with the suspect. The suspect, a 37 year-old man from Marenisco Township, surrendered without further incident after a short time.

The Michigan State Police, Marenisco Township Police and the Lac Vieux Desert Tribal Pollice assisted with the suspect’s arrest.

He was lodged in the Gogebic County Jail on charges of domestic assault and possession of firearms while intoxicated. The suspect’s bond was set at $25,000 cash.

Officials said Wednesday morning that the man had posted bond and his name would not be released until his arraignment is held later this month.
