1 injured in snowmobile accident

GWINN — The Forsyth Township Police Department is investigating a personal injury snowmobile accident that occurred at about 2:15 p.m. Saturday on Trail 32 about 5.5 miles west of Trail 33 in Forsyth Township.

A single snowmobile was being operated eastbound on Trail 32 when the driver was unable to negotiate a sharp left turn on the icy trail. The snowmobile left the trail to the right, dropped down a ditch and then struck the other side of the ditch, causing the snowmobile to vault over and the driver to be ejected off the machine.

The driver struck several small trees before landing.

The driver was transported from the scene by personnel from the Forsyth Township Fire and Police departments to meet with an EMS unit from UP Health System-Marquette, and then transported to Marquette.

The accident is still under investigation, and alcohol is not believed to be involved.

Assisting on scene were UPHS EMS and the Forsyth Township ACTIVE uit.

MARESA issuing CTE surveys

MARQUETTE — Two hundred and ninety-one Marquette and Alger counties 2017 high school graduates, or their parents, will be contacted via email and/or telephone for a survey during February, March and April.

This survey will compile information about the student’s post-graduation training and employment status after completing a Career and Technical Education, or CTE, program in high school.

The survey is being conducted for Gwinn, Ishpeming, Marquette, Munising, Negaunee, NICE and Superior Central schools by the Marquette-Alger RESA. The survey is required for Marquette-Alger schools to be eligible to receive state and federal funds that support CTE programs and it provides data to use for program improvement.
