1 injured in single-vehicle crash

MARQUETTE — A single-vehicle personal injury accident occurred on U.S. 41 South near Dalton Road in Skandia Township around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The vehicle, driven by a 54-year-old man from the Marquette area, struck a snowbank on the west side of the roadway, according to a press release from Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle left the lane it was in and exited the road on the east side of U.S. 41, going airborne into the woods near the road.

The man suffered unknown injuries and was transported to UP Health System-Marquette by ambulance for medical treatment. As of Thursday evening, the man was reported to be in stable condition.

The accident remains under investigation at this time. Responding to the scene in addition to Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, were the Skandia-West Branch Fire and EMS, UP Health Systems EMS, Forsyth Township Police and Chocolay Township Police.

City offices to close on Monday

MARQUETTE — Offices with the city of Marquette and the Marquette Board of Light and Power will be closed Monday for Presidents’ Day.

City offices include those located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue, the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Ave.; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St., in the Peter White Public Library; and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright St., will be closed on Monday.

Marquette Police, Fire and Public Works and Utilities departments will remain fully operational during this time.
