ISHPEMING – New fluorescent street lights here have made obsolescent 93 old fixtures. The old ones, both the cluster style and those with a single light, are being torn out now that the new lights are in operation. The 41 lights on Division St. were thought to be of some value, according to workmen, but the old cluster kind are about useless. In addition to having many broken bulbs, they are so old that it is difficult to get parts for them, according to William Pierce of the Upper Peninsula Power Co. No definite plans have been made for disposing of the old lights, which will be stored until spring and then will probably be disposed of in one way or another. The old parts were cast iron, which had contributed to their being brittle, so that many of them had broken panels. Put in a place so that they are not handy to car bumpers, they might last longer. There may be some future for them as lights in a residential area.
