2-vehicle crash in Negaunee Township

NEGAUNEE — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle minor injury crash that occurred just before noon Friday along U.S. 41 and Industrial Park Drive in Negaunee Township.

Police said a 2004 GMC SUV driven by 27-year-old Jesse Dupont, of Ishpeming, was heading east just west of the railroad overpass when a 2014 Dodge pick-up driven by Thomas Snow, 39, of Marquette, was also heading east, traveling in the inside lane.

Dupont then started to pass the Thomas vehicle in the outside lane, losing control of his vehicle on the icy roads. The Dupont vehicle then sideswiped the Thomas vehicle, causing both drivers to lose control. The Dupont vehicle hit the impact guard rail for the overpass and then came to rest in the medium on the east side of the overpass.

The Thomas vehicle slid across the westbound lanes and hit the north face of the westbound guard rail. A 6-year-old child in the Thomas vehicle complained of a sore back. No other injuries were reported.

Dupont was found to be at fault in the crash and cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Area police reported that roads were slippery Friday morning, resulting in several motorists not judging those conditions correctly and crashing or ending up in a ditch.
