MARQUETTE -- Jack Bergman (R) was elected to his sixth term in Congress on Tuesday by the voters of the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan. He received 53.8% of the vote to Democratic opponent Callie Barr's 44.2%. That is a notable shift from the 2024 election, in which Bergman received 59.1% of votes to Barr's 37.9%.

"I am honored that the people of Michigan's First District have once again placed their trust in me to represent them in Washington," said Bergman in an announcement made early Wednesday morning.

"While tonight was a tough night for Republicans, there is no shortage of work ahead of us to get our Nation back on track. Americans are rightly frustrated with inflation, reckless government spending, and the direction of our Nation. They deserve leaders who will listen, stand firm, and deliver results.

"The people of the First District saw the truth -- after more than $5 million in negative advertising, baseless attacks on my patriotism and integrity, and attempts to undermine the grit and determination of Northern Michigan and Upper Peninsula conservatives.

"The voters of this District have made one thing clear: Their trust cannot be bought, and their values are not for sale.

"To everyone who supported our campaign, volunteered their time, and placed their confidence in me, thank you. I am humbled by your continued support and will never take it for granted.

"Now, it's time to get back to work. God bless the First District, and God bless the United States of America."

Barr released a statement Wednesday morning as well, saying "Thank you to all of the people across this district and beyond who poured their hearts, time and energy into this campaign. While the results are not what we hoped for, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

"I am incredibly proud of what we stood for. We fought for ideas, values and a vision of the future that we believed in deeply, and that effort was not in vain. The conversations we started and the community we built will continue to move us forward.

"More than anything, my love for this country remains absolute. Our democracy is strong because we participate, accept the will of the voters, and keep working together. I am happy for our country regardless of the outcome here in MI-01, and I wish the very best to our newly elected leaders as they take on the responsibility of moving us all forward."
