By Bud Sargent 1 min read

MARQUETTE -- Motorists and recreational users should be aware of several road closures in Marquette Saturday, as the Lake Superior Performance Rally brings racing and post-race activities to the city.

Mount Marquette Road will be closed between Cliffs Power Road and M-553 from 7 a.m. until approximately noon Saturday for a stage of the rally.

Volunteers will be stationed in the area to ensure trail crossings remain closed during the race. Cyclists, hikers and pedestrians are asked to avoid using the recreational area surrounding Mount Marquette Road while the event is underway.

Motorists traveling near Mount Marquette Road and M-553 are also urged to use caution and watch for additional traffic entering the roadway.

A second closure will affect Washington Street later Saturday. Washington Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Fourth Street and Front Street from noon until midnight for the rally’s podium ceremony and post-race celebration.

Traffic will be detoured around the Washington Street closure via Bluff Street, with a signed detour route provided.

Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to use caution and allow additional time for the detours.

The Lake Superior Performance Rally is scheduled to hold events throughout Marquette on Saturday.
