MENOMINEE -- A 29-year-old Menominee woman who worked as a school bus driver faces up to life in prison after being charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving multiple variables in connection with an investigation into alleged sexual assaults involving children.
Bailee Rae Miller was arraigned Friday in 95-A District Court in Menominee. The charges stem from a Menominee Police Department investigation into alleged sexual assaults reported in the city during October.
"Behavior such as this is reprehensible," Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey T. Rogg said in a written statement to area media. "The selfish exploitation of the children of our community simply will not be tolerated, and I will aggressively pursue and prosecute those who harm these most vulnerable citizens of our community."
According to Rogg, Miller worked as a bus driver for Choice Transportation, a company that contracts with Menominee Area Public Schools. The investigation remains ongoing and Rogg said he expects to file additional charges as police gather more evidence.
Magistrate Todd Roach set Miller's bond at $500,000 cash or surety at the request of Rogg. If released on bond, Miller would be prohibited from contacting the alleged victims or anyone under the age of 18.
A conviction for first-degree criminal sexual conduct carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Those convicted also face mandatory lifetime electronic monitoring and registration as a sex offender.
Court dates for Miller's probable cause conference and preliminary examination have not yet been scheduled.
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Menominee Police Department or the Menominee County Prosecutor's Office at 906-863-2002.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to collect evidence and determine whether additional charges will be filed.
