Marquette County to partner with SWP in renewing fire breaks in K.I. Sawyer

K.I. SAWYER -- Marquette County officials said Tuesday it is partnering with Superior Watershed Partnership to begin renewing the fire breaks in the county forest around K.I. Sawyer.
The Sands Plains area was identified in the Marquette County Wildfire Protection Plan as a high wildfire risk location. The county has historically maintained fire breaks to reduce risk for the K.I. Sawyer community. The work to renew the fire breaks will consist of removing overhanging branches and removing trees that are encroaching into the fire break.
The Marquette County urges people to take caution when utilizing the trails around K.I. Sawyer for the next 2-3 weeks. Sections of trail where work is occurring will be temporarily closed and the work area will be marked with cones and flagging.
