Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee gives out annual awards

MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee Thursday held its 22nd annual awards luncheon, recognizing committee and community members who go above and beyond in their work beautifying and restoring the city of Marquette.

"My congratulations to all award recipients," said committee vice president Barb Kelly. "Those from the past, and those here today."

The committee has led a number of initiatives around Marquette over the years, including the restoration of the Father Marquette statues, the yearly Petunia Pandemonium event, graffiti cleanup and various gardens across the city.

At Thursday's meeting, the award recipients were as follows:

Youth Award -- Bothwell Middle School 7th graders, 7th grade teachers and staff

Barbara H. Kelly Historic Preservation Award -- Ore Dock Brewing Co.

Public Art Award -- Artists in Excellence

Business & Commercial Improvement Award -- Marquette Tribal Health Center, Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians

Business & Commercial Improvement Award -- O'Reilly Auto Parts

Business & Commercial Improvement Award -- First Bank

Phil Neimisto Volunteer Award -- Ray Hlavarty

Back Door Award -- Blackrocks Brewery

Phil Neimisto Volunteer Award -- Friends of the Peter White Public Library

Sally Closser Green Award -- Superior Watershed Partnership

Lifetime Achievement Award -- Tim and Dee Dee Larson
