MARQUETTE -- Lake Superior Region Indivisible will be holding early voting events across the Upper Peninsula this weekend, including one in Marquette and one in Munising.
The event, titled "No Kings: Vote Early," will be held from noon-2 in Marquette throughout downtown and from 2-3:30 p.m. in Munising at the intersection of East Munising and Elm avenues.
No Kings: Vote Early is a non-partisan event meant to help get people registered to vote and make a voting plan.
"Families across the country are struggling to afford groceries, gas, electric bills and the everyday cost of getting by," said LSRI in a press release about the event. "The decisions made by those in power shape our lives, our communities and our future.
"No Kings: Vote Early is the next step of reclaiming our power after a year of peaceful, mass mobilizations, events and non-violent protests."
"LSRI members will fan out throughout downtown Marquette to talk with voters and celebrate our fundamental right to determine our future at the ballot box," said LSRI. “We will provide people with the information they need to make sure they’re registered to vote, develop a voting plan and find out where and when they can cast their ballot."
Other U.P. cities hosting events this weekend include Escanaba, Hancock, Iron Mountain, Iron River, Manistique and Menominee. More information about these events can be found at https://www.mobilize.us/?q=No%20Kings.
Mail-in ballots have already been sent to voters, and in-person early voting begins in Michigan on Oct. 25. Election day is Nov. 3.
