FAIRBANKS TOWNSHIP -- A 47-year-old Garden woman was seriously injured Friday morning after being ejected from her vehicle in a single-vehicle crash in Fairbanks Township, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers from the state police post in Gladstone responded to the crash site at approximately 8:15 a.m. Friday 9 on II Road near II Lane, said Lt. Ben Eckola, Eighth District public information officer.
According to the preliminary investigation, the woman was traveling along II Road when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed. She was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining serious injuries, Eckola said.
Troopers and other first responders provided first aid at the scene before the woman was transported by emergency medical services. She was later airlifted by Guardian Flight to a hospital for further treatment. Her name has not been released.
Although excessive speed appears to have contributed to the crash, the investigation remains ongoing, police said.
Responding agencies included the Delta County Sheriff's Office, TriStar EMS, Guardian Flight, Nahma Township Fire/Rescue, Garden Township Fire Department and Delta County Central Dispatch, which assisted Michigan State Police at the scene.
