BARAGA -- According to a press release from InvestUP, Trans Superior Resources, a Michigan-based subsidiary for Canadian company Bitterroot Resources Ltd, has received $5.2 million in U.S. Department of War funding, available through the Defense Production Act Title II program, to advance high-grade nickel and copper exploration at the LM Property in the Baraga Basin.
The funding will help Trans Superior Resources with exploratory drilling, geophysical and geochemical surveys, permitting and other work aimed at identifying a potential domestic source of critical minerals.
The project is located near Eagle Mine in a mineral-rich area spanning across Baraga and Marquette counties. Exploration drilling is expected to continue through 2028, with Bitterroot Resources planning to use local geologists and contractors for drilling and access road work.
The funding comes as the Western U.P. is seeing renewed attention around its mineral resources, from continued activity at Eagle Mine to Copperwood Mine to White Pine Copper and new exploration across the region.
In a Sept. 15 press release from Bitterroot Resources Ltd, CEO Michael Carr said that "The Department of War's DPA Title III funds are a significant investment in our shared goal to locate a high-grade domestic source of nickel. The non-dilutive funds will reduce our cost of capital and allow the LM Project partners to finance and resume an aggressive drilling program on the highly prospective LM magma conduit."
