Rock River Township Board of Trustees pushes vote on zoning ordinance

By Annie Lippert 1 min read

ROCK RIVER TOWNSHIP -- The Rock River Township Planning Commission Monday voted to recommend the township board of trustees to send the decision of whether to repeal the township's zoning ordinance to a vote of the people.

On Tuesday, the board of trustees declined to put the township's zoning ordinance on the night's agenda. The vote will therefore have to wait until a future meeting.

The question of the zoning ordinance is up in the air after about 100 residents of Rock River Township signed a petition requesting for the ordinance to be removed. Proponents of repealing the ordinance believe that the current ordinance is unenforceable and that the township would be better off without it.

Those against repealing the ordinance believe that doing so would make the township vulnerable to unwelcome development such as condos and wind farms.
