HANNAHVILLE -- There is currently no evidence of negligence on the part of the driver of the vehicle which hit and killed a youth on the Hannahville tribal community near Escanaba recently, police said.
The accident took place at 9:10 p.m. Sept. 15, according to a written statement released by the Hannahville Tribal Police Department Tuesday afternoon.
A department spokesperson said that while the investigation remains incomplete, there is currently no evidence of negligence by the driver, who has been fully cooperative throughout the investigation.
The victim was Elijah McMillan, 12. Lifesaving measures were performed at the scene before the child was transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital. He was later transferred to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, where he died.
The Hannahville Tribal Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Menominee County Sheriff's Department, Delta County Sheriff's Department, Michigan State Police accident investigators, Harris Fire Department, U.P. Health System-Rampart, Menominee County Central Dispatch and the Menominee County Victim Services Unit.
