MARQUETTE -- The Marquette County Health Department has announced that Michigan's Women, Infants and Children program, or WIC, has increased its income eligibility guidelines, making more families eligible to receive nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and connection to other important services.
A news release states that current local health data indicates that nutrition services are a priority health need within Marquette County. The increased WIC income threshold is an important step toward expanding access to nutritional services and healthy foods for a greater number of moms, infants and children in the community.
"MCHD WIC remains a key component of ensuring health and well-being by providing support and referrals that promote healthy pregnancies, infant feeding, child growth and development," the release states.
In addition to expanded eligibility, WIC has also partnered with Meijer to enable online shopping and home delivery. This provides participating families with an additional convenient and time-saving way to access nutritious foods.
Families who are pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding, or have children under age 5 are encouraged to contact the MCHD WIC program to learn more about eligibility and participation. Families who may not have qualified previously are encouraged to check their eligibility under the new income guidelines.
