MARINETTE -- On Sunday, the Marinette County Sheriff's Office released a statement regarding a crash which occurred Saturday night, killing two teenagers and injuring two other people.
"Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller reports that at 10:55 p.m. on (Saturday), Marinette County Dispatch received an iPhone crash notification with coordinates for a location on Highway G in the town of Lake.
"A short time later, dispatch received another call from someone who reported they came upon a single-vehicle crash on County Highway G near Loomis Road in the town of Lake.
"The investigation indicates that a vehicle operated by Landen J. Englund, age 16, of Menominee, Michigan, was traveling south on County Highway G near Loomis Road when he failed to negotiate a curve and went into a ditch, striking a tree. Englund sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
"Princeton J. Welty, Age 17, of Crivitz, Wisconsin, who was a front-seat passenger, also sustained fatal injuries. Two other passengers sustained serious injuries, one of which was ejected from the vehicle, and both were transported for medical treatment.
"Speed appears to be a factor, and the crash remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff's Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner's Office. Also assisting at the scene were members of the town of Lake Fire Department, Crivitz Fire, Middle Inlet Fire, Crivitz Rescue and Aurora Medical Center -- Bay Area EMS."
Drew Buyarski, Superintendent of Menominee Area Public Schools, released a statement on Facebook regarding the crash.
"I am deeply saddened to share that one of our former students who had recently transferred has died following an accident that occurred Saturday evening. We have also learned that another former student was seriously injured in the same accident.
"Our thoughts are with the families, friends, classmates, staff members and everyone affected by this terrible news. A loss like this can have a profound impact across our school community.
"When students return to school on Monday, additional mental health professionals and support resources will be available for any students or staff members who may need them. We encourage families to speak with their children about how they are feeling and to remind them that it is okay to ask for help. Students are also encouraged to reach out to a school counselor or another trusted adult at any time.
"As our school community processes this loss together, we ask everyone to respect the privacy of the families involved. Please join us in keeping all those affected in your thoughts during this difficult time."
