MARQUETTE -- Callie Barr, D-Traverse City, Democratic candidate for Michigan's 1st District, has challenged incumbent U.S. Rep Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, to three debates leading up to the November general election.
The Mining Journal reached out to Bergman's office for comment and did not receive a response.
"Jack Bergman has been in Washington for 10 years. If he can find time to collect record amounts of taxpayer-funded reimbursements for meals and lodging, he can find time to stand in front of the people he is supposed to represent and answer questions," Barr said.
Bergman has been representing Michigan's 1st district since 2017. This is the second time Barr has faced off against him for the seat.
"I'm offering Jack three opportunities to defend his record, across three locations," said Barr. "We can debate in the Upper Peninsula. We can debate in Northern Michigan. And if it's more convenient for Jack to meet closer to his Louisiana home, I'll debate him there."
