MARQUETTE -- Ten new Michigan State Police troopers graduated Friday from the 151st Trooper Recruit School, completing an accelerated training program designed for already licensed law enforcement officers. Four of the new troopers will be assigned to Upper Peninsula locations.
The graduates were administered the Oath of Office by Michigan State Police Director Col. James F. Grady II during a ceremony in Lansing. They are scheduled to begin assignments at MSP posts across the state next week.
"We are thrilled to welcome our 10 newest troopers to the MSP," Grady said. "They are well versed in public service, as all were in law enforcement prior to joining the department. We know they will keep doing a great job making sure our communities are safe."
According to an MSP press release, the recruit school began July 5 at the MSP Training Academy in Lansing with 12 prospective troopers. The 10 graduates completed training in patrol techniques, report writing, ethics, cultural diversity and implicit bias, decision-making, leadership, first aid, criminal law, crime-scene processing, firearms, water safety, defensive tactics and precision driving.
Headed to the U.P. will be troopers Seth Bjorne and Conner Bryant, the Negaunee post; and Noah Morse and Daniel Stacks, the St. Ignace post.
At recruit school, Bjorne received the Academic and Marksmanship awards while Stacks received the Outstanding Achievement Award.
With the addition of the 10 graduates, the MSP has approximately 1,200 troopers assigned statewide and 1,850 enlisted members overall.
