MARQUETTE -- The Marquette County Suicide Prevention Alliance will join with several other local organizations, businesses and area residents to hold the annual Marquette County Walk for Hope at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19. The event benefits local suicide prevention efforts and postvention programming in the county.
The walk will be held in person at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming.
Organizers urge all area residents to attend to honor the spirit of the event and recognize the importance of suicide prevention while supporting suicide loss survivors, attempt survivors and the families and loved ones of those who struggle.
Interested parties are encouraged to pre-register, especially if they want to order a walk shirt. The deadline for shirt orders is Aug. 28. To register, visit runsignup.com/Race/MI/Ishpeming/MarquetteCountyWalkforHope. Walkers can also create their own fundraiser to collect donations.
Again this year, attendees will have the opportunity to submit a picture of a loved one at no cost, and the organizers will create and display memorial signs along the walk route.
The Marquette County Suicide Prevention Alliance also continues to promote community resources, including free, one-hour suicide prevention training for any group, organization, or business, as well as Survivors of Suicide grief support groups for adults.
