BARAGA -- Police have not released the name of the pedestrian struck and killed by a passing vehicle in Baraga late Monday night.
According to the preliminary examination by the Michigan State Police from the Calumet post, the crash took place at about 10:20 p.m. Monday on U.S. 41 near the Baraga Lakeside Inn.
Spl/Lt. Ashley Miller, Michigan State Police Seventh District Public Information Officer said a 66-year-old man was traveling southwest on U.S. 41 when a 50-year-old-woman entered the roadway on foot.
The driver, who has not been identified publicly, told police that he was unable to avoid her and she was struck, Miller said.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the vehicle was medically evaluated at the scene and released.
Miller did note that both individuals are from the village of L'Anse.
