United Airlines to further delay Chicago service at Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport

KI SAWYER -- United Airlines will further delay the launch of its Chicago O'Hare service to Marquette, Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport officials announced Monday.
"Earlier in July, the FAA announced an extension to the departure restrictions at ORD that were
originally instituted in Spring of 2026," read the statement from Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport. "This additional extension limits ORD departure capacity through Oct. 31, 2027 and has been implemented primarily to limit congestion during ongoing construction projects expected to last through Summer 2027.
"As a result, United Airlines is delaying the start of its inaugural ORD-MQT service and intends
to start service from Chicago once the FAA order expires."
Previously, in May, the airport announced that the United service would begin Oct. 25, delayed from the original May 21 start date. That delay was due to "operational limitations established under a recent Federal Aviation Administration order affecting capacity at O’Hare," according to the airport's announcement.
"While an additional delay to this much anticipated service is unfortunate, we understand the
regulatory constraints in place and recognize this order to be in interest of safety for the flying public," said David Erhart, airport manager. "We appreciate United Airlines' continued
partnership and commitment to establishing this service for the Marquette community and we
look forward to its launch after the flight cap is lifted."
