MUNISING -- This week marks one year since Starla Goings went missing from Alger County.
Goings, 65, was last seen on Aug. 15, 2025. Her 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan was found two days later in the vicinity of 16 Mile Lake and M-94.
A former bank teller, Goings is described as a white female, about 5’4″ tall and160 pounds, with short, white hair and brown eyes. Police are unaware what type of clothing she was wearing when she disappeared.
The police investigation has included elements of the Alger County Sheriff's Office, the Michigan State Police, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Forest Service plus dozens of the missing person's friends and neighbors.
In October, police suggested Goings may have been the victim of foul play. Alger County Sheriff Todd Brock said the investigation proceeds at a "rapid pace" and that not a day goes by that he and his department don't do something with the case.
"We continue to work it every day," Brock said. "The investigation is very active and very fluent."
Goings' daughter, Steffanie Goings said previously she last spoke with her mother on Aug. 15 and that Starla said at that time she was at the fair in Escanaba. Steffanie Goings, who lives in Orlando, Florida but spoke with her mother every several days, said that was the last time she she heard from her.
Nick Livermore, Goings’ son who resides in Green Bay, Wisconsin, said that Goings filed for divorce from her husband in May 2025, several months before she went missing.
The Goings family, he said, stays in very close contact with the Alger County Sheriff’s Office, speaking at least once per week. There is the possibility of a large-scale community search for the fall, he said, although firm plans have not been made.
“Overall, we’re trying to meddle through,” Livermore said of the family’s ability to cope. “We’re trying to stay positive.
“I just don’t want (the community) to lose faith,” he said. “I want to keep my mother’s story alive.”
