Stabbing investigated, suspect in custody

ST. IGNACE -- An apparent verbal altercation between a pair of 18-year-olds ended with one of them stabbing the other at a Moran Township location, according to the Michigan State Police.

A suspect is in custody following an investigation into the stabbing that took place Friday, Lt. Ben Eckola, Eighth District public information officer, said in a written statement.

Eckola said on Friday, the state police post in St. Ignace responded to a report in Moran Township that an 18-year-old male had been stabbed by another 18-year-old male following a verbal altercation. The victim, who was not named, was initially treated at Mackinac Straits Health System before being transferred to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey for additional treatment.

Following the initial investigation, the 18-year-old male suspect was arrested for attempted murder. The suspect was lodged in the Mackinac County Jail. His identity is not being released at this time, pending arraignment, Eckola said.

The investigation is incomplete and remains ongoing. Further details will be released when available.
