MARQUETTE -- A pair of Marquette residents have been arrested on child abuse charges, after their four-month-old daughter had to be flown to a hospital in Wisconsin for emergency treatment.
According to the Marquette Police Department, which is the investigative agency in the case, Christopher Dunn, 28 and Katrina Ayotte, 22, are each charged with one count of first degree child abuse. The charge is a felony. Both are parents to the child involved.
MPD officers were called to the Upper Peninsula Health System hospital in Marquette on July 15 for a wellbeing check on a four-month-old baby girl who had been brought in by her parents for decreased responsiveness. Health care workers are required by state law to notify the authorities in such cases.
Upon arrival at the hospital, officers were informed that the infant was barely responsive and was receiving medical treatment at that time. The infant, who was not named by MPD, was flown for additional medical treatment to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
A subsequent joint investigation by MPD and Child Protective Services was conducted, which generated a report that was forwarded to the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Two felony warrants were authorized on July 31.
Dunn and Ayotte were arrested Monday and lodged in the Marquette County Jail pending court developments.
