Motorcyclists killed in collision with SUV

HOUGHTON -- Michigan State Police troopers from the Calumet post are investigating a two-vehicle crash that took place Wednesday afternoon that claimed two lives.
According to MSP, a 65-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman from South Carolina were killed when the motorcycles they were riding collided with an SUV. The crash occurred at about 12:30 p.m. on US 41 near Golf Course Road in Osceola Township, said Spl/Lt. Ashley Miller, MSP Seventh District public information officer.
Miller said the preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV driven by a 45-year-old female, with two children as passengers, was traveling south on US 41 and was not aware that a pickup truck ahead of her was stopped while waiting to turn onto Golf Club Road. To avoid a collision, the driver entered the northbound lane of US 41 and collided with two motorcyclists.
The driver of the SUV and the children were evaluated at the scene by EMS and released. The investigation into the crash continues.
Police did not release the identities of the motorcyclists or indicate whether the driver of the SUV would face charges in connection to the matter.
