MUNISING -- John William Jacobson was arraigned in the 93rd District Court Monday for Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine after the Alger County Sheriff's Office seized close to a pound of methamphetamine.
According to Undersheriff Matt Walden, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Perry King of the Alger County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on M-94 near Rumley.
During the traffic stop, the vehicle operator made statements and gestures that caused Sgt. King to suspect illegal activity. King is K9 officer for the Alger County Sheriff's Office and therefore deployed his canine, Alger. Alger alerted to the presence of narcotics.
Ultimately, the Alger County Sheriff's Office seized 14.907 ounces of methamphetamine from the vehicle. Jacobson was arrested and transported to the Alger County Jail.
"Yesterday, Sgt. King removed a significant quantity of methamphetamine out of circulation," said Alger County Sheriff Todd Brock. "It's because of Sgt. King's countless hours of work with our K9s and the diligence of our officers that we're able to intervene and prevent these drugs from reaching our community."
Added Alger County Prosecutor Robert Steinhoff: "I want to applaud Sgt. King and the Alger County Sheriff's Office for the excellent work they're doing in finding, arresting, and building a case against traffickers. I'm proud to work closely with the sheriff's office to keep these life-taking poisons off our streets and out of our communities."
The defendant was given a $50,000 bond by the 93rd District Court at arraignment, allowing 10% of that to be posted to satisfy the bond.
