Ishpeming’s Kriskindlmarkt seeks donations

ISHPEMING -- After a busy month of parades and community engagement, the committee seeking to bring a Christmas market to downtown Ishpeming is shifting its focus to fundraising.
The Ishpeming Kriskindlemarkt is inspired by traditional European holiday markets and similar events found in other Midwestern cities such as Grand Rapids and Chicago. It will be the first Christmas market of its kind in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Organizers are hoping to raise $100,000 for the inaugural market and are currently halfway to that fundraising goal. Five Christmas market huts have been built, with four more funded.
The committee hopes to build 15-20 huts for the inaugural market, and businesses and individuals can donate $3,000 to have their names placed on a hut for the lifetime of the structure.
The public got a sneak peek at one of the Christmas market huts during this year's Fourth of July parades in Ishpeming and Marquette, and during Negaunee's Pioneer Days parade. One hut was on display in Downtown Ishpeming during the Thursday night concert and farmer's market for the month of July.
