IRON MOUNTAIN -- The 3-on-3 Gus Macker Basketball Tournament team was busy Thursday setting up courts and getting organized for the three-day event that opened on Friday.

Nothing happens at the tournament without teamwork, event co-coordinator Barb Reisner stressed.

“For the last six years of Gus Macker Iron Mountain, the event team has recruited more than 200 volunteers for Saturday and Sunday,” she said. “Iron Mountain has been recognized for having an exceptional team that meets for nine months preparing and coordinating the entire weekend.”

Opening ceremonies will start at 8 a.m. today at the top men’s court, with the tournament games to tip off at about 8:30 a.m. at each court. Dream court games will start at 9 a.m.

Macker competition resumes at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, with trophies presented at about 11 a.m. in the gym.

The new Gus Macker Cafe will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, offering a variety of food and beverages. Additional food vendors will include the Gus Macker outdoor food tent, Flavor Blast, Curious Pig and Elephant Ears.
