Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office handles rescue at Rainbow Falls

WAKEFIELD -- The Gogebic County Sheriff's Office Monday released a statement regarding a rescue they facilitated at Rainbow Falls that day.
"At approximately 1:39 p.m. on Aug. 24, Gogebic County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the falls near Black River Trail. Initial reports indicated that two individuals had gone over the falls. Upon arrival, responding law enforcement officers immediately began to search the area. Witnesses indicated they could hear yelling near Rainbow Falls
"It was determined that one individual attempted to cross the Black River and slipped. When the second attempted to help, the current pulled both individuals over Rainbow Falls,” the statement noted.
Both individuals were hoisted to safety with only minor injuries by Gogebic County Search and Rescue Team.
The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office was supported throughout the response by multiple agencies, including the Michigan State Police from the Wakefield post, the U.S. Forest Service law enforcement, the Ironwood Township Fire Department, the Gogebic County Search and Rescue and Beacon Ambulance.
