Fuel for the imagination
Ishpeming teen seeks donations for her lending library

ISHPEMING -- Writer Sidney Sheldon once said, "Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life." One West Ishpeming teen has sought to provide that fuel to her community.
Samy Malette, 13, has imagined having a small community library since she was very young.
"As long as Samy could ride her bike in the neighborhood, she has wanted a little lending library of her own," said Carrie Malette, Samy's mom. "Having only one library in the area wasn't enough for her. Sam was involved in the process of creating the library from start to finish."
Carrie Malette said that the lending library came together from a donated mailbox stand and an unfinished cabinet.
"She and her dad made her dream a reality," she said.
Samy's library includes adult and children's books, bookmarks, trinkets and puzzles. A donation box was put out this week for drop-offs.
The lending library is located at 220 S. Pansy St. in West Ishpeming. The family is willing to do pickups for donations. For more information on making a donation, send email to carriepez@yahoo.com.
